We currently deliver apprenticeships to young people aged 16-24 at Level 2 and 3.

Our Level 2 framework sees apprentices complete a Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership. This covers topics such as session preparation, session delivery and sports development. Over 52 weeks apprentices will be assessed on their work by SUFC staff, who will also help train the young people into becoming community coaches. As well as the NVQ, apprentices will complete their FA Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football, plus their Safeguarding and Emergency First Aid certificate.

Level 2 Apprentices complete 30 hours per week, of which around 20 hours will be delivery on one of our many projects to children and young people in the local area. The remaining hours are allocated to office duties and time to complete the NVQ framework.

Upon completion Level 2 apprentices will sit a review with senior staff regarding the opportunity for them to move onto the Level 3 apprenticeship.

The Level 3 programme sees apprentices complete a Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Sports Development. Topics in this qualification include providing leadership, facilitating community sport and managing behaviour. As well as this, learners complete a Higher Sports Leaders Award. This will help apprentices to understand about how to lead a session for both children and older people, plus understand the legal and ethical responsibilities when working with others. Level 3 apprentices work 30 hours per week, of which around 20 will be working on our projects in the local area.

All apprentices are paid £80 per week, and are given 20 days annual leave. They will also receive a full Southend United tracksuit as well as 2 free tickets for every Southend United home League 2 fixture.
